Hindustan Motors moves HC against Bengal labour panel's lay-off ruling

Email this report to a friend

Hindusthan Motors Limited today filed a writ petition before the Calcutta High Court challenging the state Labour Tribunal order opposing HM's lay-off proposals.

The state Labour Tribunal, after hearing the state government, Hindusthan Motors's management and workers' representatives at length, had opposed the lay-off proposal at HM's car manufacturing unit near Uttarpara in Hooghly district.

In its order, the tribunal had observed that there should be no pruning of staff, but the company could launch a scheme for manufacturing small cars.

The company, however, contended that it was not a company that assembled parts of a car, but manufactured cars like the Ambassador. It had no infrastructure to produce small cars.
