Profit-booking speculators pull down Sensex by 64 points to 4015.75

BSE Sensitive Index

The Sensitive Index or Sensex on the Bombay Stock Exchange dropped for the second day in a row, this time by nearly 64 points, due to profit bookings by dealers on the last day of trading here today.

According to marketmen, the equities shot up to commendable heights following good buying support from foreign institutional investors initially as the Sensex rose above the 4100-mark.

But, profit-booking by operators at higher levels and squaring-up of positions by bulls during the day prevented it from moving any further on the scale.

Heavy selling was thus witnessed at the fag end which dropped the Sensex while only the shares of the Unit Trust of India were reported to be bought during the day.

Reflecting the trend, the BSE-30 index started smartly above its yesterday's close at 4110.25 points which was also its day's high.

It could not surpass this mark and fell to a low of 4006 points and finally closed at 4015.75 points, registering a loss of 63.70 points.

The broad-based BSE-100 index also closed lower after a tremendous start at 1770.18 points which was also its highest during the day. It fell to as low as 1725.11 points and closed after gaining slightly by 1728.67 points, with a loss of 31.13 points.

The BSE-200 lost by 8.38 points, closing at 393.43 points while the Dollex lost by 3.23 points, closing at 153.22 points. Their previous closing were 401.81 and 156.45 points respectively.

The number of scrips traded for the day were 1,656 of 228,160 trades. The volume of trades was Rs 74 million while the total turnover was Rs 212.09 billion.
