Delhi government permits unrestricted sale of Daewoo cars

Email this report to a friend

The transport department of the Delhi government today permitted unrestricted sale of Daewoo passenger cars -- Matiz, Cielo and Nexia -- in the National Capital Region.

The company claimed a seven-fold increase in dealership traffic, following the Supreme Court order on emission norms.

A circular issued today by the government in compliance of the Supreme Court verdict has allowed registration of Daewoo vehicles which comply with Euro-I and Euro-II norms without any restrictions.

According to a company statement, Daewoo Motor India Limited had earlier furnished a certificate regarding conforming to Euro-II norms in respect of its various models manufactured at the Surajpur plant in Uttar Pradesh. DMIL has all its products already complying with the Euro-I and Euro-II norms.

This has apparently resulted in a big demand upsurge for all Daewoo products. Daewoo further stated that since all its vehicles meet the Euro-I and Euro-II emission norms, there has been an increase in dealership traffic by five to seven times after the Supreme Court verdict on April 29.

Orders to the tune of over 150 cars per day are being accepted at dealerships and the company has stepped up production to meet this demand.
