Pivotals stage smart recovery; nifty up 13 points to 1054.60

Pivotals staged a smart recovery on good buying support from bull operators and financial institutions on the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened lower at 1036 points and slid to a low of 1028.45 points, ending 13.35 points higher at 1054.60 points from 1041.25 points.

CNX Nifty also rose by 23.55 points to 1987.80 points from 1964.25 points. The S&P CNX Defty appreciated by 10.30 points to 861.20 points from 850.90 points. The S&P CNX 500 advanced by 3.64 points to 736.35 points while CNX Midcap 200 edged up by 2.78 points to 670.72 points.

The total turnover, involving 93.6 million shares in 320,255 trades, stood at Rs 25.82 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 18.41 million. Today, a total of 342 securities advanced, 789 declined, 51 remained unchanged and 144 securities hit their price bands.

The top gainers included Indian Rayon which improved by 8.06 per cent to Rs 77.10, ACC by eight per cent to Rs 1,417, Infosys 7.99 per cent to Rs 2,932, ITC 5.86 per cent to Rs 975 and P&G 4.58 per cent to Rs 961.40.

The top losers were Arvind Mills 7.03 per cent slid to Rs 29.75, Tisco 3.95 per cent to Rs 96, Asian Paints 3.08 per cent to Rs 252, Telco 2.95 per cent to Rs 161.10 and NIIT 2.84 per cent to Rs 1813. Pentafour Software registered the highest turnover of Rs 4.41 billion followed by Satyam Computers Rs 3.94 billion, ITC Rs 1.89 billion, Silverline Rs 1.76 billion, Rolta Rs 1.13 billion, SBI Rs 980.9 million, Reliance Rs 881.4 million, NIIT Rs 702.2 million, Tata Tea Rs 690.4 million, HCL-HP Rs 668 million, Infosys Technologies Rs 667.9 million, Ranbaxy Rs 596.2 million and Zee Telefilms Rs 484.1 million.

The other actively traded counters were: ACC Rs 410.6 million, Global Telesystems Rs 337.6 million, BPL Rs 337 million, L&T Rs 333.9 million, Telco Rs 311.4 million, MTNL Rs 265.4 million, Digital Equipment Rs 254.7 million, Tisco Rs 208.6 million, Sterlite Rs 181.9 million, BHEL Rs 177.6 million, Dr Reddy's Rs 137.9 million and NIIT Rs 132.9 million.
