India's export growth rate is poised to be over five per cent in dollar terms for the fiscal 1998-99, a top government official said today.

''We are definitely going to cross the five per cent mark in export growth in dollar terms this year,'' Nripendra Mishra, additional secretary, commerce ministry, said.

Speaking at a seminar in New Delhi, Mishra said it is difficult to give the annual growth rate precisely as it is likely to be revised upwards in the final estimates.

Exports during January 1999, the latest figures available, were valued at $ 2.85 billion, up by 8.51 per cent in the same month the previous year.

The export value till January 1999 had touched $ 34.9 billion.
