FIIs sustain buying support, rally continues; Nifty up 12 points to 1214.30

Pivotals continued their rally on sustained buying support by foreign institutional investors or FIIs and bull operators at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the upbeat trend, the S&P CNX Nifty rose by 12 points or 0.99 per cent to 1214.30 points from 1202.30 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 23.80 points to 1952.65 points from 1928.85 points while S&P CNX Defty improved by 8.80 points to 974 points.

The S&P CNX 500 Index moved up by 8.95 points to 816.85 points and CNX Midcap 200 appreciated by 10.90 points to 688.50 points from 677.60 points.

Total turnover, involving 102.54 million shares in 320,668 trades, was Rs 23.05 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 8.74 million.

Today, 545 securities gained, 446 declined, 85 remained unchanged while 59 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: Indian Rayon which shot up by 8.03 per cent to Rs 154.75 from Rs 143.25, NIIT 8 per cent to Rs 1903.90 (1762.85), Asian Paint 7.91 per cent to Rs 325.55 (301.70), Telco 5.60 per cent to Rs 219.85 (208.20) and Ranbaxy 4.66 per cent to Rs 617.70 (590.20).

The top losers included Nestle which eased by 2.34 pr cent to Rs 535.25 from Rs 548.05, BHEL 1.77 per cent to Rs 235.70 (239.95), Cochin Refineries 1.51 per cent to Rs 146.90 (149.15) , MTNL 1.36 per cent to Rs 199.40 (202.15) and IPCL 1.20 per cent to Rs 107.30 (108.60).
