Bulls, FIIs continue their act; Nifty up 25 points to 1349

Pivotals surged on heavy buying support from bull operators and foreign institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the positive sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty rose by 25.35 points to 1349.60 points from 1324.25 points. CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 72.65 points to 2168.90 points from 2096.25 points. S&P CNX Defty appreciated by 20.85 points to 1082.20 points from 1061.35 points.

S&P CNX 500 index moved up by 17.60 points to 921.45 points from 903.85 points while CNX Midcap 200 improved by 19.10 points to 783.30 points from 764.20 points.

The total turnover, involving 113.31 million shares, in 367,001 trades, stood at Rs 27.68 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 4.38 million.

About 595 securities advanced, 496 declined, 79 remained unchanged while 105 scrips hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: Cipla which shot up by 8 per cent to Rs 1802.10 from Rs 1668.60, Infosys Technologies 8 per cent to Rs 5505.45 (Rs 5097.60), NIIT 7.98 per cent to Rs 2,306.40 (Rs 2136.05), Indian Rayon 7.61 per cent to Rs 82.05 (Rs 76.25) and HDFC 7.07 per cent to Rs 2580.25 (Rs 2409.95).

The top losers were: Tisco which slid by 4.70 per cent to Rs 150.15 (157.55), M&M 4.45 per cent to Rs 317 (Rs 331.75), Hindalco 3.33 per cent to Rs 861.75 (Rs 891.45), Tata Chemicals 3.18 per cent to Rs 76.05 (Rs 78.55) and Telco 1.83 per cent to Rs 278.55 (Rs 283.75).
