Pharma, infotech spark rally; Sensex recovers 29 points, 3344.68

BSE Sensitive Index

Pharma and infotech scrips led the 30-point rally in the Sensex, aided by good buying support from foreign institutional investors and public financial institutions at the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

The BSE-30 Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened at 3309.11, witnessed a high of 3345.74 and a low of 3305.72 and finally ended at 3344.68, showing a net gain of 29.61 points.

According to marketmen, the FIIs bought pharma shares like Glaxo and Ranbaxy, while institutions, who were buyers in the initial stages, sold key pivotals at higher levels. Good activity was also witnessed in Satyam Computers, Pentafour Software, Tisco and Reliance.

HLL ended at Rs 1,960, Satyam Computers at Rs 966, ITC at Rs 851, Pentafour Software at Rs 870, Telco at Rs 206, Tisco at Rs 127, Reliance at Rs 121 and SBI at Rs 153.

The BSE-100 index ended at 1478.42, showing a net increase of 16.34 points from the previous close of 1462.08.

The BSE-200 index closed 4.38 points higher at 341.68 and the Dollex index went up by 1.50 points to end at 133.88.
