Heavy buying helps pivotals to surge; Nifty up 34 points to 959.45

The National Stock Exchange witnessed a cheerful mood today as pivotals shot up sharply on heavy buying support from institutional investors and speculators.

Reflecting the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 938.80 points, touched the day's high of 959.60 points, fell to the day's low of 935.20 points, before closing at 959.45 points, showing a smart gain of 34.70 points as against the previous close of 924.75 points.

CNX Nifty Junior zoomed up by 52 points to 1700.85 points from the previous close of 1648.85 points. The S&P CNX Defty Index gained by 28.50 points to 783.45 points as against the previous close of 754.95 points. The S&P CNX 500 and CNX Midcap -200 also rose modestly by 22.05 and 17.95 points to 664.22 and 588.08 points as against the previous close of 642.20 and 570.13 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE stood at Rs 22.60 billion. There were 78.67 million shares traded. Number of trades conducted were 271,551. Debentures traded value was Rs 4.04 million.

Today, 748 securities advanced, 274 declined, 87 remain unchanged while 143 securities hit their price bands today.
