Selling pressure keeps pivotals low; Nifty down 13 points to 939.70

Pivotals opened on a positive note, declined marginally towards the end of the trading session on selling pressure and lack of buying interest on the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the downtrend, the S&P CNX Nifty moved down by 12.70 points to 939.70 points from 952.40 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior index slid by 24.35 points to 1649.80 points while S&P CNX Defty dropped by 10.35 points to 766.80 points.

The S&P CNX 500 index drifted lower by 9.21 points to 652.79 points and CNX Midcap 200 lost 7.85 points to 576.53 points.

Total turnover, involving 88.23 million shares in 252,580 trades, was Rs 21.10 billion and the debenture traded were Rs 2.30 million. Today, 389 securities advanced, 643 declined and 108 remained unchanged while 77 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: Ranbaxy up by 4.92 per cent to Rs 320, Gujarat Ambuja Cement up 3.03 per cent to Rs 261.70, Cipla up 1.56 per cent to Rs 1040, ABB 1.34 per cent to Rs 509 and MTNL 0.49 per cent to Rs 165.10.

The top losers were: Hindustan Petroleum down 5.95 per cent to Rs 206.90, Cochin Refineries 4.61 per cent to Rs 144.70, BHEL 4.33 per cent to Rs 241, Grasim 3.85 per cent to Rs 151 and ICICI 3.57 per cent to Rs 47.25.
