Encyclopaedia Britannica India Private Limited today announced the launch of its Internet service at www.britannica co.in featuring free access to the full text of Encyclopaedia Britannica.

The Website delivers an integrated presentation of content from a wide array of publishers, as well as a full line of general information and community services, a company release said.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Inc is a leading publisher of high-quality information and reference products in electronic and print form.

It publishes encyclopaedic reference works in the English language: Britannica CD on CD-ROM; Encyclopaedia Britannica Online on the Internet; and the famous 32-volume Encyclopaedia Britannica and the 12-volume Britannica Ready Reference.

Encyclopaedia Britannica has been published continuously since 1768, and its contributors have included many of the leading thinkers of every generation, from Sigmund Freud, George Bernard Shaw and Marie Curie to Carl Sagan, Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking.

Since its inception in September 1998, the India office of Encyclopaedia Britannica in New Delhi has been actively involved in the review, revision or rewriting of the entire South Asia-related content of the encyclopaedia.

Among the exclusive South Asia print products are a six-volume Students' Britannica, with a focus on South Asia, and a one-volume exclusive millennium publication of Select Essays on South Asia.

The India office has been working on the selection and review of India-specific Websites, to further enhance the international coverage on britannica.com.

The difference between www.britannica.com and www.britannica.co.in is that the latter is the 'Indianised' edition of the former.

The site will feature Indian spotlights and news headlines along with a special section on 'Favourites of the Famous' where Indian celebrities from all walks of life would be invited to list their personal favourite Websites. The Indian spotlights would also focus features on issues, places and other relevant India-centric interest areas.
