Rupee range-bound in dull trading, ends a tad stronger

The rupee firmed up by one paisa against the American dollar in a dull trading session at the interbank foreign exchange market today.

The Indian unit opened nearly steady at Rs 43.4850/4950, moved in a narrow range and ended at Rs 43.4750/4850, marginally higher as compared to its previous close of Rs 43.4875/4925.

Forward premia ended slightly lower and six-month annualised premia closed at 5.26 per cent. The monthly premia (in paise) were September 16-17, October 33-34, November 49-52, December 69-71, January 93-94 and February 111-113. Cash/spot ended at 1.00-1.50 paise, while cash/tomorrow and tomorrow/spot ended at 0.50-0.75 paise each.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for US dollar at Rs 43.48 as against the previous Rs 43.49 per unit.

The rupee ended at Rs 69.82 a pound sterling, Rs 45.94 a euro and Rs 39.76 Japanese yen (100).
