It's Tuesday, selling pressure as usual at NSE; Nifty slides to 808.70

Equities declined on selling pressure by foreign institutional investors and domestic operators at the National Stock Exchange today, the last day of the current settlement.

The S&P CNX Nifty opened at 831.15, touched the day's high of 831.45, low of 803.30 and ended at 808.70 points, shedding 22.55 points. The CNX Nifty Junior fell by 34.65 points to close at 1372.10 points. The S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 18.05 points at 662.65. S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap 200 drifted by 15.11 and 13.73 points to close at 557.68 and 489.70.

The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 14.85 billion from 56.56 million shares in 191,654 trades. A total of 145 scrips advanced, 756 declined and 65 remained unchanged.

A total of 61 securities hit their price bands. Satyam Computer recorded the highest turnover of Rs 2.75 billion followed by ITC (Rs 2.46 billion), Zee Telefilms (Rs 1.84 billion), Pentafour Software (Rs 1.19 billion), Reliance (Rs 798.9 million) and SBI Rs 791.3 million.

Others recording a high volume included Castrol, HCL-HP, MTNL, HLL, Infosys, Digital Computer, Telco, Dr Reddy's, Tata Tea, ACC and NIIT.

The top gainers were IPCL, HPCL, Ranbaxy, Tata Tea and Indian Rayon while prominent among those who shed value included ICICI, HDFC Bank, IDBI, Tata Chemicals and ACC.
