The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development aimed at identifying and motivating youth to shape up into entrepreneurs is coming up at Gurgaon.

The Centre and the Haryana government have contributed Rs 13 million for the prestigious venture now under construction on the Haryana Institute of Public Administration campus in Gurgaon near Delhi by Haryana Tourism. Work is likely to be completed by November.

Although the centre is being established within the ambit of the HIPA, it will work with full functional autonomy. The centre will strive to enhance the skills of youth and their knowledge for self-employment for better utilisation of human resources, thereby helping achieve a high growth rate for the Indian economy.

The centre, which is likely to be operational by the year end, will conduct entrepreneurship development programmes for needy urban and rural youth including technically qualified persons and women entrepreneurs.

For this purpose, the centre will organise seminars and workshops. Already, the courses for the entrepreneurs are being designed. These are three- and six-month diploma courses relating to computers, labour laws and women entrepreneurs. There will be special diploma course for small business.

Once operational, the centre plans to undertake surveys of sick industrial units for the purpose of developing case studies. It would conduct research to identify problems being faced by the entrepreneurs and help them in finding alternatives for them. Besides, surveys to identify the areas requiring youth entrepreneurial skill and scope of relevant industry will be taken up.

As part of its broad-based objective, the centre would establish a liaison with various consultancy and entrepreneurship development institutions, promotional agencies, banks and financial institutions and United Nations agencies.
