Pivotals recover on FI support; Nifty up over four points, 860

Pivotals recovered moderately on good buying support from domestic institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange on the last day of weekly trading settlement today.

Reflecting the firm trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 855.45 points, touched the day's high of 861.65 points, fell to the day's low of 854.55 points before closing at 860.00 points, showing a net gain of 4.65 points from the previous close of 855.35 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior advanced by 6.00 points to 1439.35 from the previous close of 1433.35 points while CNX Defty moved up by 2.30 points to 702.05 points from the previous close of 699.75 points.

The S&P CNX 500 and CNX Midcap 200 indices closed higher by 4.17 and 4.91 points to 586.50 and 522.54 points from the previous close of 582.33 and 517.63 points respectively.

In all, 549 scrips advanced, 458 declined and 118 remained unchanged. And 28 securities hit their prices bands. Total turnover reported was Rs 10.42 billion from trading in 57.40 million shares in 179,962 trades.

Petrochem major Reliance topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 1.27 billion, ITC Rs 1.20 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 1.05 billion, Telco Rs 762.1 million and Satyam Computers Rs 723.7 million.

Other actively traded counters were Pentafour Software (Rs 722.7 million), SBI (Rs 649.5 million), HCL HP (Rs 242.5 million), ACC (Rs 235.5 million), Castrol (Rs 222.4 million), Softsol International (Rs 214.2 million), Sterlite (Rs 206.4 million), Tisco (Rs 177 million), Tata Tea (Rs 165.6 million), Glaxo (Rs 161.6 million), MTNL (Rs 140 million), L&T (Rs 136.9 million), Raymond (Rs 112.9 million), LML (Rs 88.4 million), BHEL (Rs 83.1 million), ICICI (Rs 78.4 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 77.1 million), Nestle (Rs 74.1 million), Amararaja Batteries (Rs 74 million) and Dr Reddy's (Rs 65.9 million).

Among the gainers, Telco closed at Rs 146.70 (Rs 138.15), Arvind Mills at Rs 32.55 (Rs 30.85), M&M Rs 170.40 (Rs 164.25), Ranbaxy Rs 539.70 (Rs 523.25), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 230.25 (Rs 224.15). The losers included East India Hotel closed at Rs 260.05 (Rs 266.90), HDFC Bank Rs 54 (Rs 54.75), Indian Rayon Rs 107.15 (Rs 108.45), Hindalco Rs 538.65 (Rs 544.75) and Cochin Refineries Rs 131.75 (Rs 133).

The foreign institutional investors turned out net sellers with registering net sales worth Rs 36.3 million. The domestic institutional investors and mutual funds have reported net buying worth Rs 20.8 million.
