Glad tidings, as pivotals surge on FII buying; Nifty up over 23 points, 864.65

The United States decision to lift the economic sanctions partially has boosted market sentiment on the National Stock Exchange today as the pivotals registered significant gains on heavy buying support from foreign institutional investors and domestic institutional investors.

Reflecting the bullish phase, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 841.30 points, touched the day's high of 870.50, low of 841.65, before closing at 864.65 points, registering a net gain of 23.85 points over the previous close of 840.80 points. CNX Nifty Junior index advanced by 25.90 points to 1432.10 points from the previous close of 1406.20 points. S&P CNX Defty ended higher at 19.90 points to 708.65 points against the previous close of 688.75 points.

The S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap 200 also registered an increase of 13.63 and 10.54 points to 587.77 and 515.09 points from the previous close of 574.14 and 504.55 points respectively.

The exchange witnessed a total turnover of Rs 14.90 billion from 72.28 million shares in the number of trades 219,062. Debentures traded value was Rs 560.7 million.

About 729 securities advanced, 269 declined, 74 remained Unchanged and 63 securities hit their prices bands today.

The FIIs net investment on the NSE stood at Rs 335.1 million and from the financial institutions and mutual funds Rs 78 million.

Satyam Computers topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 2.66 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 1.76 billion, ITC Rs 1.57 billion, State Bank Rs 1.23 billion.

Other actively traded scrips were Pentafour Software (Rs 1.23 billion), Telco (Rs 586.2 million), Castrol (Rs 493.3 million), ACC (Rs 460.3 million), MTNL (Rs 426.7 million), HCL-HP (Rs 412.9 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 350.7 million), L&T (Rs 287.1 million), Tata Tea (Rs 254.5 million), Tisco (Rs 220.9 million), Sterlite (Rs 167.6 million), Infosys Technolgies (Rs 137.3 million), Raymond (Rs 129.1 million), Dr Reddy's (Rs 127.1 million), Nestle (Rs 110.9 million), ICICI (Rs 108.1 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 103.8 million), Digital Equipment (Rs 100.5 million), BHEL (Rs 86 million) and BFL Software (Rs 70.8 million).

The top five S&P CNX Nifty gainers were GE Shipping Rs 23.10 (21.35), BHEL Rs 262.85 (Rs 243.35), ICICI Rs 47.95 (Rs 44.40), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 227.20 (Rs 210.85) and East India Hotel Rs 264.70 (Rs 245.70).

The prominent losers were Smithkline Rs 490.50 (Rs 497.50), Infosys Tech Rs 2406.10 (Rs 2421.10) and Cipla Rs 909.90 (Rs 910).
