Email this report to a friend

In Tamil Nadu, wholesale salt dealers in Tuticorin are willing to send salt to the northern states, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to meet scarcity, if any, if they are allowed to tranship the commodity by freight wagons.

According to the traders, they were allowed to send salt by freight wagons to West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Orissa and by trucks to Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

There were enough salt stocks in this coastal town and salt was available at the rate of Rs 30 per gunny bag containing 50 kg, they added.

The traders wanted the Union and state governments to take the initiative and allow transshipment of salt by freight wagons.
