Email this report to a friend

In Uttar Pradesh, the state government has issued directives to the district magistrates for strict enforcement of the Essential Commodities Act and the Anti-hoarding and Blackmarketing Acts.

In the directives sent to the district magistrates, Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has asked them to ensure supply of essential commodities and to ascertain their retail prices. He said the divisional commissioner and the DMs should make sure that the traders did not overprice their goods.

Stating that the government was serious about bringing down the prices, Kalyan Singh said the Essential Commodities Act and the Anti-hoarding and Blackmarketing Act would be strictly enforced. The former Act was not being enforced in the state for a long time, he said.

Meanwhile, reports from Etah said the traders had reduced the prices of salt and today it sold for Rs 1.50 a kg there. District Magistrate Mahesh Kumar Gupta claimed that the rumours about salt prices soaring had not affected the price of this commodity in the district.
