Power projects won't be affected: Minister

Send this story to a friend

Union Power Minister P R Kumaramangalam today sought to allay apprehensions that India's power sector would be affected by the retaliatory sanctions by some countries due to the nuclear tests at Pokhran this week.

Kumaramangalam told the media that the country had not received any information or intimation about the sanctions on the country's power projects and made it clear that India was capable of mobilising resources if any such sanctions came.

According to him, the total coverage by the multilateral funding agencies in the power sector is a meagre 20 per cent of the total investment.

''We are more than confident that, even if such a situation arises, the country will have no problems in finding funds for the sector,'' a confident power minister asserted.
