'Too early to gauge effects of sanctions'

Send this story to a friend

Caparo Group of Industries Chairman Swraj Paul says it is too early to spell out the effects of the likely economic sanctions that the world community could impose on India following its series of nuclear tests.

Talking to the media at Amritsar, Paul said, ''While the tests showed the strength of the country and the achievements of its scientists, it could always trigger an arms race in the region.''

He said the tests took all the countries of the world by surprise and added that the condemnation of the tests made by some of the leading nations was 'on the spur of the moment reactions'.
