Slap more taxes on farm sector: Sangma

Send this story to a friend

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma says the tax structure in the country has a low revenue elasticity, which means that tax revenues could be increased only if tax rates are increased.

Addressing an international seminar on good governance and accountability in New Delhi, Sangma called for objective consideration of enhancing revenues from the farm sector without killing incentives in view of the need to create huge agricultural infrastructure.

Speaking on the economic dimensions of good governance, Sangma said revenue should be increased through an equitable and productive taxation regime. He also stressed on the need for effective resource deployment for good governance.
