BSE Sensitive Index

Sensex up 21.90 points

The hint of stability at the Centre after the election of Lok Sabha speaker helped the confidence of market players.

They entered market in a big way and pulled up the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex by at least 22 points, following major buying in the heavy-weighted scrips in a hectic trading on the BSE today.

Mirroring the trend, the 30-share BSE Sensitive index opened at 3913.96 points, touched a day's high of 3969.15 points, fell below the 3900 mark to touch the day's low of 3884.71. However, the Sensex recovered sharply to close at 3949.57 points, showing a net gain of 21.90 points against the previous close of 3927.67 points.

The BSE-100 National index increased by 12.60 points to 1722.08 points as against the previous close of 1709.48 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices closed higher by 3.43 and 1.53 points to 382.30 and 161.06 points, as against the previous close of 378.87 and 159.53 points respectively.

There was very limited support as seen from domestic institutional investors in view of the current financial year end, leading BSE brokers said.

Foreign institutional investors picked up a sizeable number of bluechips during the day, they added.
