NSE-50 Index

Nifty drops 34.15 points

Pivotals exhibited a further downslide due to selling pressure by operators on the National Stock Exchange at the last day of current settlement today.

The NSE-50 index lost 34.15 points to 1019.60 points against the previous close of 1053.75 points. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) also lowered by 29.55 points to 845.75 over the previous close of 875.30 points. The Midcap index crashed by 84.95 points to 1526.30 as compared to the last working day's figure of 1611.25 points.

The total turnover on 96.1 million company shares in 269,942 trades was Rs 22.8 billion while 134 securities advanced, 930 declined, 51 remained unchanged, and 186 scrips hit their price bands today.

ITC registered highest turnover of Rs 5.4 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 3.5 billion, Satyam Comp Rs 3.1 billion, Tisco Rs 884.1 million, SBI-N Rs 848.1 million, ACC Rs 649.8 million, BPL Rs 634..4 million, Zee Tele Rs 631.2 million, Telco Rs 579.3 million, Pentsfware Rs 560.5 million, Hind Lever Rs 40.73 million, L&T Rs 356.7 million and BFL Software Rs 345.4 million.

The other counters which witnessed active trading were Sterlite Rs 336.8 million, Silver Line Rs 330.4 million, Videocon Int Rs 319.8 million, Tata Tea Rs 301.4 million, Castrol Rs 245.5 million, ICICI Rs 205.1 million, SQRD Sfware Rs 194.5 million, LML Rs 143.9 million, Infosys Tech Rs 136.2 million, MTNL Rs 131.4 million, NIIT Rs 113.8 million and Bajaj Auto Rs 95.6 million.

Hindalco emerged as the top gainer with 2.83 per cent increase, followed by HDFC 20.2 per cent, ICICI 1.39 per cent and Tisco 0.13 per cent while BHEL was the topmost loser with 8.83 per cent lose, followed by M&M 8.68 per cent, Ashok Ley 7.92 per cent, Arvind Mill 6.68 per cent and Rhermax 6.29 per cent.
