Gupta becomes IDBI chief

Former Unit Trust of India Chairman G P Gupta today took over as chairman and managing director of the Industrial Development Bank of India following instructions from the Centre.

Gupta, who did not confirm his posting to IDBI on Tuesday evening, took up his new job on Wednesday morning. He replaces S H Khan who demitted office yesterday without handing over charge as no official communique was received till the close of business hours yesterday.

Addressing the staff in Bombay yesterday, Khan reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction over the way the government had delayed the appointment, affecting the smooth transition at IDBI.
