NSE-50 Index

Nifty rises by 0.95 point

Lackluster trading was witnessed at the National Stock Exchange today with volumes remaining thin and prices of pivotals failing to register significant gains.

Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 Nifty index opened at 1011.60, touched the day's high of 1017.75, fell to touch day's low of 1003.90 points, and later closed at 1012.40 points showing a net gain of 0.95 points over the previous close of 1011.45 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 Defty index gained moderately by 9.15 points to 904.70 points over the previous close of 895.55 points, while the Midcap index increased by 4.30 points to 1145.85 points over the previous close of 1141.55 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was at Rs 9.97 billion.

Castrol topped the list of turnover by registering the highest business volume of Rs 2.4 billion, pushing down market leader ITC to second number Rs 2.4 billion followed by State Bank Rs 1 billion, Tata Tea Rs 865 million, Reliance Rs 485.6 million.

Hectic activity was also observed at the other counters like Corp Bank Rs 268.5 million, TELCO Rs 278 million, BHEL Rs 225.6 million, MTNL Rs 206.5 million, Hind Lever Rs 150.8 million, ACC Rs 131.5 million , LML Rs 126 million, ICICI Bank Rs 85.6 million, L and T Rs 76.2 million, TVS Suzuki 75.5 million, ICICI Rs 71.5 million, Hero Honda Rs 59.6 million, Bajaj auto Rs 49.4 million, Rel Petro Rs 34.9 million, BSES Rs 32.9 million, BPL Rs 30.4 million, Colgate Rs 29.2 million and HDFC Bank Rs 27.5 million.

HDFC Bank, Reliance Capital, IDBI, GE Shipping and Thermax emerged as top gainers while BHEL, BSES, Guj Amb, State Bank and ABB were the top losers during the day.
