NSE-50 Index

Nifty gains 5 points

Pivotals improved marginally over the previous close on buying support from financial institutions and common investors on the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today.

The NSE-50 index opened at 1081.00 points, touched the day's high of 1091.30 points before closing at 1086.20 points, showing a net gain of 5 points as against the previous close of 1081.20 points. The Dollar NSE-50 finished at 957.90 points over the last trading day's close of 955.05 points gaining 2.85 points. The Midcap index settled down at 1215.80 points as compared to previous close of 1207.40 points increasing 8.40 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 864.62 core involving 44 million shares.

Ashok Leyland rose to Rs 42.45 from Rs 40.45, TISCO moved up to Rs 141.10 from Rs 135.60, ABB shot up to Rs 494.40 from Rs 475.80 and Ind Rayon hardened to Rs 194.05 from Rs 187.45.

However, Cochin Refin declined to Rs 188 from Rs 192.10, HDFC came down to Rs 3114.35 from Rs 3160.70, HPCL drifted lower to Rs 484.15 from Rs 487.80, Asian Paints to Rs 302.50 from Rs 304.75 and Ranbaxy decreased to Rs 701 from Rs 706.

ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 2.6 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.3 billion, SBI-N Rs 780.1 million, TISCO Rs 561.5 million, Reliance Rs 557.8 million, TELCO Rs 465.8 million, Castrol Rs 289.1 million, Hind Lever Rs 177.7 million, ACC Rs 137.2 million, BPL Rs 12.01 million, L and T Rs 93.3 million, BSES Rs 73.7 million, Colgate Rs 67.6 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 64.5 million, Corp Bank Rs 61.8 million, IPCL Rs 56.3 million, Bank of Baroda Rs 54.2 million, MTNL Rs 53.3 million, BHEL Rs 48.7 million, Rel Capital Rs 33.6 million, EI Hotel Rs 32.4 million, Glaxo Rs 32 million, ICICI Rs 3.19 million, Rel Petro Rs 31.1 million and LML Rs 31 million.
