NSE-50 Index

Nifty rises 9.75 points

Pivotals gains moderately on the National Stock Exchange today, following good buying support from foreign institutional investors and speculators.

Reflecting an uptrend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1036.30 points, touched the day's high of 1048.55, fell to touch day's low of 1032.40 and later ended at 1045.80 points, showing a net gain of 9.75 points over the previous close of 1036.05.

The Dollar NSE index closed higher by 7.70 points to 922.60 points as against the previous close of 914.90 points. The Midcap index also gained by 7.10 points to 1187.05 points over the previous close of 1179. 95 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 11.8 billion.

ITC topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 2.6 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.2 billion, Castrol Rs 792.7 million, Rel Rs 737.3 million, LML Rs 643.9 million, SBI Rs 640.8 million, Hind Lever Rs 540.9 million, ACC Rs 539.6 million, BHEL Rs 466.4 million, Ponds Rs 402.6 million, MTNL Rs 363.7 million, L and T Rs 275.3 million, TELCO Rs 272.5 million, TISCO Rs 187.1 million, Glaxo Rs 147.2 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 124.6 million, ICICI Rs 124.1 million, HPCL Rs 104.9 million, Corp Bank Rs 94.2 million, BSES Rs 68.2 million, Lakme Rs 66.9 million, Pentsware Rs 64.3 million, Ranbaxy Rs 63.5 million, P&G Rs 62.1 million and Satyam Comp Rs 58.2 million.

Ponds, HPCL, BHEL, ABB and ACC were the top gainers while Thermax, Grasim, HDFC Bank, IFCI, Rel Capital emerged as the top losers during the course of trading.
