Nifty loses 3.9 points

Share prices reacted marginally on bull liquidation and lack of buying support from financial institutions on the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today.

The NSE-50 index opened at 997.10 points, touched day's high of 1006.25 points, low of 991.85 points, and closed at 993.65 points, suffering a loss of 3.90 points as against the previous close of 997.55 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index finished at 884.25 points, losing 4.6 points over the last trading day's close of 888.85 points.

The Midcap index also came down by 0.15 points to 1106.00 points as compared to yesterday's close of 1106.15 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 9.7 billion involving 39.1 million in 125,412 trades.

Major gainers were BPCL, EIH, MTNL, Bajaj Auto and Tata Power while losers were Indo Gulf Fertiliser, TELCO, BHEL, HPCL, and Reliance. Fifty-three securities have hit their price bands in the exchange.

Hectic activity was witnessed at ITC Rs 2.8 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.1 billion, Hind Lever Rs 893.8 million, Reliance Rs 739.6 million, Castrol Rs 643.7 million, SBI-N Rs 484.4 million, MTNL Rs 421.1 million, TELCO Rs 355.4 million, LML Rs 309.9 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 259 million, ACC Rs 212.1 million, L and T Rs 130.8 million, TISCO Rs 101.7 million, Nestle Rs 71.6 million, Ponds Rs 70.8 million, BHEL Rs 58.4 million, Pentsfware Rs 55.3 million, Ranbaxy Rs 54.7 million, Orchid Chem Rs 54.1 million, Corp Bank Rs 51.8 million, HPCL Rs 51.8 million, BSES Rs 40.3 million, Glaxo Rs 35 million, Colgate Rs 34.8 million and P&G Rs 32.9 million.
