HLL moves aid Sensex zoom by 79.69 points

Equity prices recovered smartly on the final day of settlement over Hindustan Lever Limited's amalgamation with Ponds India and merger with Lakme, coupled with renewed buying support from foreign institutional investors on the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

As a result the BSE Sensex zoomed up by 79.64 points in a single day trading. Hindustan Lever shot up by Rs 120 as compared to yesterday's close. After the gap of four days, FIIs entered in the market and bought 500,000 ITC and 300,00 HLL shares.

Mirroring the uptrend, the BSE Sensitive index (30 scrips) opened higher at 3306.39 points to touch day's low of 3297.54 points before closing at the day's highest level of 3373.53 points, showing a net gain of 79.64 points as against the previous close of 3293.89 points.

The BSE National index also improved by 28.94 points to 1449.23 points over the previous close of 1420.29 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices also increased by 04.89 and 02.10 points to 320.93 and 137.71 points as compared to the last trading day's close of 316.04 and 135.61 points respectively.

Despite the approaching general elections, FII showed confidence in the Indian capital market, said brokers, and added that this trend may continue for short a time. Only will the forming of a stable government have a good impact on the capital market, they said.

The increase in HLL prices, sidelighted the other scrips as shares of non-specified groups also improved marginally.

Total turnover rose to Rs 9 billion from Rs 6.6 billion yesterday.

ITC registered highest turnover of Rs 3.1 billion followed by Hindustan Lever Rs 1.3 billion, Castrol India Rs 923.9 million, Tata Tea Rs 854.7 million, Reliance Rs 403.4 million, SBI Rs 348.8 million, TELCO Rs 265.2 million, Ponds Rs 241.3 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 216.6 million, MTNL Rs 194.5 million, TISCO Rs 98.3 million, ACC Rs 91.6 million, L&T Rs 65.2, Sterlite Rs 50.3 million, and BPL Rs 46.7 million.

Good transactions were observed at Corporation Bank (Rs 30 million), Videsh Sanch (Rs 27.1 million), Aptech (Rs 23.5 million), Bata India (Rs 17.1 million), LML (Rs 10.8 million), in the B1 counters.

HLL shot up by Rs 118.25 to Rs 1501.25, Ponds India rose by Rs 43.75 to Rs 1065.75, ITC by Rs 20.50 to Rs 614.75, Bajaj Auto by Rs 10.50 to Rs 510.50, ACC by Rs 2.25 to 1248.25, Andhra Vall by Rs 13.4 to Rs 70.15 and State Steel by 1.6 to Rs 122.30.
