NSE-50 Index

Nifty ends 4.80 points lower

Pivotals declined moderately and the market witnessed a downtrend as the first day of the current settlement failed to create a fresh stir at the national stock exchange today.

The NSE-50 index opened slightly higher at 964.25, moved upward and fluctuated between a high of 971.75 points and a low of 956.00 points. The Nifty gradually closed at 958.90 points, showing a net loss of 4.80 points as against yesterday's close of 963.70 points. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index closed at 857.80 points, 2.70 points below its previous close of 860.50 points.

The Midcap index also declined marginally by 0.15 points to close at 1060.15 points as compared to yesterday's close of 1060.30 points. The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 9.1 billion involving 35.4 million share. The number of trades was 108,465.

The top gainers for the day were Arvind Mills, IPCL, ICICI, IDBI and Orient Bank while the top five losers were M&M, Ind Rayon, GE Shipping, BHEL and Reliance.

ITC registered a highest turnover of Rs 4 billion with other way behind as SBI-N registered a turnover of Rs 75 million, Tata Tea Rs 703.7 million, Reliance Rs 635.5 million, MTNL Rs 448.9 million, Castrol Rs 420.4 million, Hind Lever Rs 305.6, LML Rs 180.1, L&T Rs 171.3, TELCO Rs 153, Bajaj Auto Rs 133.3, ACC Rs 128.7, TISCO Rs 118.2, Aptech Rs 86.2, BHEL Rs 7.92, Bank of Baroda Rs 43.7, IPCL Rs 39.7, Mukand Rs 34.9, Corp Bank Rs 34.7, M&M Rs 32.2, ICICI Rs 32.2, NIIT Rs 32.2, SmithKl Pha Rs 22.5, Ponds Rs 22.3 and HDFC Bank Rs 20.6 million.
