NSE-50 Index

Nifty drops 12.40 points

The market sentiment weakened and pivotals witnessed a gradual decline as operators sold heavy-weighted shares to square up their positions on the last day settlement at the National Stock Exchange today.

The NSE-50 index opened steady at 976.10 and did not show any upward trend but touched a low of 962.00 and closed at 963.70 points, showing a net loss of 12.40 points as compared to its previous close of 976.10 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 index finished at 860.50 points decreasing 12.40 points over its previous day's close of 872.90 points. The Midcap index also declined considerably by 14.50 points to close at 1060.30 points as compared to its yesterday's close of 1074.80.

The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 9.3 billion involving 35.8 million shares. The number of trades was 128,915.

The top gainers were HPCL and MTNL while the top losers for the day were HDFC Bank, ABB, Cochin Ref, IPCL and Thermax.

ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 3.1 billion followed by Tata Tea Rs 1 billion, Castrol Rs 80.66 million, SBI-N Rs 551.6 million, Hind Lever Rs 484.6 million, Reliance Rs 483.2 million, TELCO Rs 4559. million, Bajaj Auto Rs 261.9 million, MTNL Rs 240.2 million, ACC Rs 214.5 million, LML Rs 147.7 million, TISCO Rs 121.8 million, L&T Rs 103.4 million, Aptech Rs 98.6 million, Corp Bank Rs 78 million, BHEL Rs 66.4 million, Ponds Rs 43.8 million, Glaxo Rs 40.7 million, ICICI Rs 39.8 million, ABB Rs 34.8 million, BPL Rs 33.8 million, BSES Rs 32.5 million, Smithkl Pha Rs 25.8 million, Colgate Rs 24.9 million, HDFC Bank Rs 24.2 million.
