NSE-50 Index

Nifty up by 1.55 points

Pivotals improved further on marginal buying support from institutions and general investors on the National Stock Exchange today.

The NSE-50 index opened at 976.10, touched 981.20, low of 971.90 before closing at 977.65 points showing a net gain of 1.55 points as against its previous close of 976.10 points. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index finished at 875.60 points over the last working day's close of 872.60 points, gaining 3 points.

However, the Midcap index declined by 9 points to 1081.35 points as compared to yesterday's close of 1090.35 points. The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 13.3 billion involving 39.2 million shares. The number of trades was 123,858.

ITC registered highest turnover of Rs 6.4 billion followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.6 million, Castrol Rs 1.3 billion, SBI-N Rs 734.1 million, Reliance Rs 491.6 million, Hind Lever Rs 466 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 452.4 million, TELCO Rs 314.8 million, MTNL Rs 246.7 million, ACC Rs 107.3 million, Corp Bank Rs 81 million, TISCO Rs 75.7 million, L and T Rs 68.7 million, LML Rs 59.4 million, BSES Rs 55.9 million, BHEL Rs 43.5 million, Ponds Rs 42.9 million, Glaxo Rs 4 million, Smithklpha Rs 28.8 million, BPL Rs 26.9 million, Sterlite Rs 2.61 million, Guj Amb Cem Rs 2.53 million, HDFC Bank Rs 2.39 million, HPCL Rs 23.4 million and ABB Rs 22.6 crore.

The top gainers were Bajaj Auto, Ponds, MTNL, Oriental Bank and BSES, while the losers were Ind Hotel, Ashok Ley, Arvind Mill, Asian Paint and IPCL.
