NSE-50 Index

Nifty gains 8.15 points

Pivotals gained marginally on buying support from financial institutions and common investors in the National Stock Exchange today.

The NSE-50 index opened at 968.15, touched the day's high of 980.45 points, low of 968.15 points and closed at 976.10 points showing a net gain of 8.15 points as against its previous close of 967.95 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index closed at 872.60 points over the last trading day's close of 866.40 points, gaining 6.20 points. However, the Midcap index declined marginally by 1.90 points to 1090.35 points as compared to yesterday's close of 1092.25 points.

The total turnover on NSE was Rs 10.6 billion involving 34.3 million shares.

ITC registered a turnover of Rs 4.8 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1 billion, SBI-N Rs 924.2 million, Castrol Rs 677.9 million, Reliance Rs 654.7 million, Hind Lever Rs 524.1 million, TELCO Rs 339.6 million, ACC Rs 162.5 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 130.9 million, MTNL Rs 126.6 million, LML Rs 12.10 million, TISCO Rs 75.6 million, Glaxo Rs 74.6 million.

Among the others, registered good volume were L and T Rs 72.9 million, BHEL Rs 63.1 million, Corp Bank Rs 58.8 million, SmithKl Rs 58.8 million, ABB Rs 56.9 million, ICICI Rs 32.8 million, Nestle Rs 28.5 million, EIH Rs 28.2 million, Hindalco Rs 27.2 million, Bank of Baroda Rs 22.7 million, BPL Rs 20.7 million, Digital Equip Rs 19.8 million.

Top gainers were EIH by 3.67 per cent to Rs 299.75, BPCL by 3.4 per cent to Rs 361.9, ITC by 2.29 per cent to Rs 595.55, Bajaj Auto by 1.98 per cent to Rs 481.95 and Hind Lever by 1.93 per cent to Rs 1422.40 per cent. Major losers were Grasim, Thermax, Arvind Mills, Glaxo and HDFC Bank.
