BSE Sensitive Index

Sensex gains 38.29 points

Select equities recovered marginally on speculative buying support from bear operators and foreign institutional investors on the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the uptrend, the BSE Sensitive index (30 scrips) opened at 3339.02, touched day high of 3366.07, low of 3336.97 and closed at 3357.48 points, showing a net gain of 38.29 points as against its previous close of 3319.19 points.

The FIIs bought considerable amount of bluechips namely ITC and Hindustan Lever. The market opened higher level on shortcovering by the speculators, moved further till the midtrading, later it came down due to profit-taking and finally it recovered and closed higher, leading brokers said.

The BSE National index finished at 1447.98 points over the last trading day's close of 1435.16 points gaining 12.82 points.

The BSE-200 and Dollex indices settled down at 322.17 and 138.42 points as compared to yesterday's close of 319.94 and 137.85 points respectively.

The total turnover was Rs 7.5 billion involving 25.9 million shares. Out of 6,915 scrips, a number of 1,477 scrips were traded.

The highest turnover was registered by ITC Rs 3.3 billion, followed by SBI Rs 794.6 million, Tata Tea Rs 674.2 million, Castrol Rs 551.7 million, Reliance Rs 391.5, Hind Lever Rs 269.3 million, TELCO Rs 259.1 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 145.8 million, MTNL Rs 124 million, ACC Rs 92.1 million, Glaxo Rs 62.5 million, Smithklin Rs 56.5 million, BHEL Rs 55.3 million, ABB Rs 54.3 million and TISCO Rs 45.3 million in specified counters.

A good transaction was observed at Corporation Bank Rs 35.1 million, Dig Equip Rs 32.3 million, Aptech Rs 17.6 million, LML Rs 15 million, Infosys Tech Rs 13.4 million, Punjab Tractor Rs 11.9 million, HDFC Bank Rs 7 million, Reliance Pet Rs 6.9 million, Cipla Rs 6.5 million at ''B1'' counters.
