NSE-50 Index

Nifty down by 1.35 points

Pivotals closed marginally lower in a lacklustre trading on the last day of weekly trading cycle at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 (Nifty) index opened at 977.05 points, touched the day's high of 979.55 points, declined to the day's low of 967.85 and finally ended at 975.25 points, showing a net loss of 1.35 points over the previous close of 976.60 points.

The NSE-50 Defty index however gained by 1.75 points to 871.85 points as against the previous close of 870.10 points. The Midcap index drifted lower by 12.30 points to 1100.60 points, against the previous close of 1112.90 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 12.7 billion.

ITC continued at the top by registering highest turnover of Rs 4.6 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.4 billion, Reliance Rs 973.4 million, Castrol Rs 916.3 million and State Bank of India Rs 713.4 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like TELCO Rs 475 million, Hind Lever Rs 381.4 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 362.5 million, MTNL Rs 303.7 million, ACC Rs 271.2 million, Ranbaxy Rs 135.4 million, BHEL Rs 131.8 million, Corp Bank Rs 129.6 million, Glaxo Rs 122 million, TISCO Rs 105.8 million, LML Rs 81 million, L and T Rs 76.8 million, Ponds Rs 76.8 million, ICICI Rs 72 million, Infosys Tech Rs 67.6 million, Ingerrand Rs 66.6 million, BSES Rs 64 million, NIIT Rs 49.2 million and Nestle Rs 4.49 million.

Glaxo, HPCL, BSES, Ind Hotels and Cochin Refin were the top gainers while EI Hotel, Bajaj Auto, M and M, ABB and Ind Rayon emerged as the top losers today.
