RIL's Intellectual Report to be published annually

Reliance Industries Limited has announced that its Intellectual Capital Report will be published annually. The ICR offers exhaustive data about RIL's operations and seeks to redress the imbalance between non-financial and financial data.

"We recognise that this report is a first step into uncharted territory. This is in keeping with the Reliance tradition of taking bold pioneering steps," the report states.

According to a company statement, intellectual capital can be called the aggregate intangible capability at the disposal of the organisation. This capability might derive from various sources such as investor goodwill, employee expertise or organisational processes -- or as an interplay between all these factors, in turn strengthening each one.

According to the statement, the ICR leads to comprehensible disclosure for investors, accountability and improved governance.

RIL's ICR looks in detail at four interlinked but separate intellectual capital drives to examine the value creation process. The four drives are human capital, structural capital, customer capital and investor capital. Data on each facet are examined in great detail. In effect, the company has created internal benchmarks in each of these areas which will be used to track and improve performance in those areas.

The ICR is available both in print as well as on CD-ROMs. It is also available at the Reliance Internet site in a browsable form.
