Nifty slides further

Prices of major scrips witnessed a further slide on the National Stock Exchange on the last day of the current settlement.

Mirroring the weak note, the NSE-50 index lost 17.55 points to 1,146.80 points as against the previous close of 1,164.35. The dollar NSE-50 index also fell by 15.30 points to 999.95 as compared to the previous day's 1015.25 points. The midcap index suffered a 48.95-point lose, to 1552.35 points, over the previous day's close of 1601.30 points.

The total turnover was Rs 15.26 billions while the value of debentures traded was Rs 2.8 million. The total traded quantity was 70.4 million and the number of trades, 2,34,890.

One hundred and thirtysix scrips hit their price bands today. Among the top securities which witnessed very hectic activity were ITC (2.33 billion), Reliance (1.98 billion), ACC (1.22 billion), SBIN (808.5 million), Satyamcomp (582.1 million), Glaxo (577.1 million), Tata Tea (470.9 million), Castrol (458.4 million), Pentgfware (355 million), Tisco (280.4 million), Hind Lever (270.2 million), ICICI (261.8 million) and LML (241.6 million).

The other actively traded securities included NIIT (227 million), BHEL (215.3 million), Sterlite (189.3 million), Telco (182.9 million), BPL (180.3 million), BSES (176.6 million), Dr Reddy (161 million) Infosystch (153.9 million), MTNL (145.3 million), Bajaj Auto (138 million), Zee Tele (133.7 million) and L and T (132.9 million).

IDBI emerged the top gainer with 3.49 per cent increase to Rs 108.20 against the previous close of Rs 104.55, followed by Ashok Ley at Rs 52.50 (51.05), Andra Vally at Rs 98.90 (97.10), Ind Rayon at Rs 218.50 (216.15) and Nestlers at 460.80 (455.85 ).

Tata Chem topped in the losers list with 7.98 per cent fall to Rs 166.05 as compared the previous close of Rs 180.45, followed by T V S Suzuki at Rs 536 (581.65), ABB at Rs 555.15 (590.90), IPCL at Rs 70.40 (74.70) and Orient Bank at Rs 64.45 (67.95).
