Budget presentation likely on June 1

Send this story to a friend The first budget session of the 12th Lok Sabha is expected to commence from May 27.

An official spokesman told mediapersons in New Delhi that a recommendation to this effect had been sent by the Union cabinet to the President. The exact duration of the session will be decided in consultation with all political parties, he said.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha secretariat sources said that the railway budget was expected to be presented on May 28, followed by the general budget on June 1. The session is likely to continue till July 31.

The legislations for grant of statehood to Delhi and for the creation of the states of Uttaranchal, Vananchal, and Chhatisgarh will be introduced during the second session of the 12 Lok Sabha.

The first session was convened to enable Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to prove his majority and to deal with urgent financial business, apart from the address by President K R Narayanan to the joint sitting of both houses.
