Nifty down a wee bit -- 1.95 points

Pivotals opened on a buoyant note but could not maintain the initial high and declined slightly at close on the first day of current settlement on the National Stock Exchange today.

A highest number of 292,616 trades recorded on the exchange today. The total turnover stood at Rs 18.6 billion involving 89.1 million shares in 292,616 trades.

Mirroring the easy trend, the NSE-50 index lost 1.95 points to 1210.80 points as against the previous close of 1212.75 points. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) also lowered by 2.25 points to 1056.50 points as compared to the last day's close of 1058.75 points.

The Midcap index decreased by 1.85 points to 1697 points from the previous close of 1698.85 points. About 234 securities have hit their price bands in the exchange.
