Nifty drops 32.95 points

Pivotal prices reacted in a brisk trading on the last day of current settlement cycle on the National Stock Exchange today.

The NSE-50 index opened nearly steady at 1191.65 points and remained at same level before touching a day's low of 1156.85 points and finally finished at 1159.45 points, suffering a loss of 32.95 points as against the previous close of 1192.40 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 index closed at 1014.35 points over the last trading day's close of 1043.20 points losing 28.85 points. The Midcap index settled down at 1531.05 points as compared to the previous close of 1581.35 points decreasing 50.30 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 17.9 billion, involving 84.8 million shares in 267,904 trades. About 321 securities have hit their daily price circuits.

Hectic activity was observed at ITC (Rs 4.1 billion), RIL (Rs 1.7 billion), SBI-N (Rs 1.4 billion), Tata Tea (Rs 1.3 billion), Castrol (Rs 841.8 million), ACC (Rs 679.9 million), Hind Lever (Rs 565.5 million), TELCO (Rs 458.3 million), TISCO (Rs 458.3 million), BSES (Rs 408.4 million), Satyam Comp (Rs 373.6 million), LML (Rs 279.9 million), MTNL (Rs 275.2 million), ABB (Rs 246.4 million), Sterlite (Rs 242.1 million), BHEL (Rs 232.4 million), L and T (Rs 204.8 million), Colgate (Rs 171.5 million), Pentsfware (Rs 165.1 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 159.8 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 137.9 million), ICICI (Rs 130.4 million), Bank of India (Rs 118.1 million), Digital Equip (Rs 114.5 million), Wart Diesel (Rs 103.8 million) counters.

Among the gainers were ABB rose to Rs 632.05 from Rs 614.40, Guj Amb Cem improved to Rs 300.80 from Rs 295.80, Arvind Mills to Rs 83.05 from Rs 81.80, Ranbaxy to Rs 720.50 from Rs 714.90 and ICICI shot up to Rs 101.95 from Rs 101.40.

Losers were Ind Hotel declined to Rs 525.35 from Rs 565, Ashok Ley came down to Rs 54.10 from Rs 57.90, TVS Suzuki to Rs 508.20 from Rs 542.20, IDBI to Rs 89 from Rs 94.9 and Thermax drifted lower to Rs 215.7 from Rs 229.1.
