Nifty up marginally

A mixed trend was witnessed on the last day of the current settlement in the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today as equity prices fluctuated in a narrow range.

The NSE-50 index opened at 1187.35, shot up to the day's high of 1199.55, dropped to the low of 1184, before closing at 1187.80 points, registering a nominal gain of 0.70 point.

The Dollar NSE-50 index opened at 1039.90 points, rose to the high of 1048.65, fell down to the low of 1035.30 and finally closed at 1039.30 suffering a nominal loss of 0.50 point.

The Midcap index opened at 1445.65 points, rose to the high of 1477.25 points, declined to the low of 1445.05 before closing at 1469.40 registering a net gain of 24.15 points over the previous close of 1445.25 points.

The total turnover stood at Rs 19.59 billion involving 75.13 million shares in 232,805 trades. About 202 securities have hit their price bands.

Among the actively traded secruties were ITC Rs 4.6 billion, Hind Lever Rs 2.2 billion, Reliance Rs 1.6 billion, SBI-N Rs 1.5 Billion, ACC Rs 884.3 million, Castrol Rs 810.7 million, TELCO Rs 801.7 million, Tata Tea Rs 662.2 million, TISCO Rs 506.9 million, BHEL Rs 407 million, BSES Rs 405.8 million, MTNL Rs 352.6 million, and L and T Rs 273..5 million.

Other counters which also witnessed active trading were LML Rs 268 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 232.8 million, Sterlite Rs 184.2 million, GE Shipping Rs 180 million, ICICI Rs 155 million, Reck Colman Rs 145.3 million, Aptech Rs 129.4 million, Infosys Tech Rs 128.8 million, Pentsfware Rs 121 million, Corp Bank Rs 66.4 million, and Ponds Rs 94.1 million.

Among the top five Nifty gainers are Rel Petro 10.12 per cent, Rel Capital 8.16 per cent, Cochin Ref 7.56 per cent, MRPL 5.13 per cent and Ashok Ley 4.69 per cent, while the top losers are TELCO 3.97 per cent, GE Shiping 3.57 per cent, Nestle 3.22 per cent, BHEL 3.10 per cent and M&M 2.78 per cent.
