Private Equity and Venture Capital

When capital (money) is invested into a private company (not listed on the stock exchange) in the form of equity, it is referred to as private equity.

A venture capitalist is one who commits capital to an unproven venture. This is very risky but the returns, if the company does well, can be phenomenal.
